St. Pete weathers severe storm

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Despite some felled trees, including a giant one on 40th Ave NE (pictured), St. Pete appears to have weathered Thursday's severe weather well.

A number of fallen trees and power issues were reported, but compared to some of the damage on the Pinellas County beaches, the City of St. Pete had limited problems as of Thursday afternoon.

Drivers will be given the boot for unpaid tickets

St. Petersburg, FL -- Drivers with several unpaid parking tickets will soon be given the boot. Mayor Bill Foster announced today that beginning April 15, 2011, car owners who have at least three outstanding and overdue parking tickets or one overdue disabled parking ticket may find their car booted with an immobilization device or boot until the overdue parking citations are paid.

"We have a very small minority of drivers in downtown St. Petersburg who demonstrate a flagrant disregard of the city's parking regulations, and have incurred significant debts in unpaid citations," Mayor Bill Foster said .

The city reports one violator currently owes the city $8,405 in overdue fines stemming from 131 different parking citations.

Saint Petersburg, FL -- The Tampa Bay Rays return to Tropicana Field for their first home game of the 2011 season on Friday, April 1. On opening day and other select game days, you can ride a shuttle from downtown to Tropicana Field.

The opening day shuttle service against the Baltimore Orioles will run from 5:10 p.m. until one hour after the game is over. Shuttle service runs approximately every 5 minutes.

$19 Vision airfares disappear this weekend

St. Petersburg, FL -- If you're trying to book a $19 airfare on Vision airlines, you may be out of luck.

The airline says he introductory offer for the flights from St. Pete-Clearwater to Destin has been very popular and may not be available for all flights.

The offer continues through 11:59 pm Sunday. Vision begins direct service to Destin on Friday.

Fatal crash in Seminole

Seminole, Florida -- A fatal car accident occurred today at the intersection of Duhme Road and 54th Avenue North in Seminole around 11:30 a.m.

A 1999 Mercury heading southbound in the left turn lane of Duhme Road approaching 54th Avenue North failed to yield to the right-of-way and turned left as another vehicle was coming through the intersection. The second car, a 1998 Chrysler convertible driven by a 48-year-old female, hit the right side of the Mercury, which then collided by a concrete barrier wall.

The driver of the Chrysler was left in serious condition and transported to Morton Plant, and the driver of the Mercury was taken to Saint Petersburg General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

This incident remains under investigation.
