Seminole - The Florida Department of Transportation has three construction projects set to begin in and around Seminole.

On Seminole Boulevard, you may experience nightly lane closures Sunday - Tuesday (Feb 20 - Feb 22) between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Crews will be laying down new crosswalk markings.

Crews will also be painting crosswalk markings on Walsingham between Hamlin Boulevard and Tall Pines Drive. There will nightly intermittent lane closures Sunday - Saturday (Feb 20 - Feb 26).  Expect the closures between 10:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Clearwater, FL -- Traffic will be restricted during three construction projects in the city:


Starting Monday, road remilling and resurfacing will start on Countryside Boulevard from Belcher Road to U.S. 19 and from U.S. 19 to State Road 580. A flagman will be directing traffic.


The southbound curb lane of Myrtle Avenue will be closed from Jasmine Way to Magnolia Drive during daylight hours due to a stormwater pipe lining project.


The work should be completed by Feb. 18.


There will be a lane shift at Highland Avenue between Fairmont and Overlea streets on Saturday, Feb. 19, due to a water main installation.

Downtown St. Petersburg, FL -- For the next 41 days, downtown St. Petersburg streets will be changed into the course for the seventh annual 2011 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Th event is March 25th-27th. Crews are using 20,000 feet of steel-reinforced concrete barriers and 44,000 feet of chain-link fence to create an 1.8 mile, 14 turn course for the IndyCar race.

From now until the race is completed, only local traffic will be allowed on southbound Bayshore Dr. S.E. at First Ave. S.E. and eastbound Fifth Ave. S./Dali Boulevard at First St. S. Crews will install the track and barrier fencing along Bayshore Dr. S.E. As part of phase two, slated to begin Monday, February 21st, crews will build Pit Lane and spectator seating in Albert Whitted Park.

Palm Harbor, FL -- U.S. 19 southbound is closed at Innisbrook for an overturned semi-truck.  There are no reports of serious injuries but traffic is being detoured around the crash.


All vehicles are being directed onto Belcher.

Treasure Island gets new beach signs

Treasure Island, FL -- New beach access signs and five additional crosswalks on Gulf Boulevard are getting closer to reality.


During a Jan. 4 workshop, the Treasure Island City Commission decided to move forward on a request by the Public Works department to fund the project beyond the $380,000 that was recently awarded to the city from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Trustee Council in connection with the 1993 Tampa Bay oil spill.


Commissioners decided to break the request into two resolutions - one for work along Gulf Boulevard and another for West Gulf Boulevard in Sunset Beach.

Pavement project soon to give bicyclists more room to ride in St. Pete

St. Petersburg, FL -- Two projects are underway along 1st Street North as part of a continuation of the North Bay Trail which will eventually link the Pinellas Trail with Gandy Boulevard through the Rio Vista Trail.

The sidewalks are being widened and markers will divide the pavement into two lanes, giving bicyclists more room.


Fire hydrants and water meters had to be relocated as part of the project.

St. Pete Beach -- Sunstar Firstcare Ambulance Membership Plan Applications are now being accepted through March 31, 2011.

This is a Pinellas County government program that works with your insurance company to cover out-of-pocket expenses associated with ambulance rides. It covers unlimited medically necessary transportation, to or from a medical facility within the county.

This offers protection that may be lacking with your insurance coverage.  For member without insurance, the plan provides for a 20 percent discount on ambulance charges.
