Police: Woman chokes boy over Facebook comments

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A woman has been charged with child abuse after police say she choked a 14-year-old boy at a local mall over Facebook comments.

The sheriff's office says Debbie Piscitella and her 14-year-old daughter were at Tyrone Square Mall Monday afternoon when the girl spotted the boy who made the Facebook comments that upset her. When she pointed him out to her mom, Piscitella confronted the teen.

"She put her hands around his throat and started to choke him," said police spokesman Mike Puetz.

Dad sends child to school with backpack full of pot

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The father of a kindergarten student was arrested Tuesday after a teacher found marijuana in his child's backpack.

Authorities say once the child's father, 25-year-old Larry Stephens, realized he had left the marijuana and scale in the backpack he went back to Campbell Park Elementary School and tried to get it back, but it was too late. The child had already shown it to a teacher who turned it in to the principal.

While officers were out looking for Stephens, he got his lawyer and turned himself in.

Monkey found in truck during DUI stop

Largo, Florida -- When police pulled over a man speeding on East Bay Drive Thursday night they no doubt got surprise when they found a monkey in the truck along with him.

According to police, officers pulled over 36-year-old Eugene Carl Kotelman, who was driving 70 mph on the road, just after midnight Thursday morning.

Police discovered Kotelman had been driving on a suspended license and had a lengthy history of DUI charges. He was again arrested for DUI.

Baby Rescue: Officer was ready to jump in the water

Clearwater, Florida -- The police officer who rescued a 3-month-old boy from a mother who was hallucinating says he was ready to jump in the water after the child.

Clearwater Police Officer Brian Tejera told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that when he arrived to find Lydia Chako in only a T-shirt next to the water talking about her son being dirty and needing to be decontaminated. He said he was ready to do anything to save the boy.

Woman arrested for child abuse thought her baby was possessed

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Clearwater police have arrested a woman for child abuse after they say she tried to toss her her 3-month-old baby in the ocean because she thought he was possessed by demons.

A property manager called police Tuesday afternoon when she arrived at Lydia Chako's apartment and noticed it was flooded. The manager found the 39-year-old inside making bizarre comments and throwing things. Police say Chako believed her baby was covered in lizards and snakes and said she was trying to keep the demons out.
