Ex-beach resident accused as beach blanket thief

Clearwater Beach, Fla. -- Police have arrested a 22-year-old Anita Lucas on charges she stole items from beach blankets on the north and south beach.

"Witnesses saw the suspect attempting to conceal T-shirts and a bottle of hot sauce from the Crabby Bills gift shop at 333 S. Gulfview Boulevard and contacted police," according to public safety spokesperson Elizabeth Watts. "When an Officer arrived on scene and attempted to speak with the suspect she ran. After a short foot pursuit, she was taken into custody."

Man hits fire truck with chunk of concrete

Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater Police are looking for the man who threw a piece of concrete at a passing fire truck on Gulf to Bay Boulevard Friday morning.

According to police, the fire truck was responding to a call around 7:20 a.m. when the man, walking east on the north side of the road in the 2300 block, threw a large piece of concrete, shattering the windshield on the passenger side.  He then ran from the area in an unknown direction.

Body found in storage unit

Clearwater, Florida -- Police say the remains of a woman who died more than 15 years ago were recovered in a Clearwater storage unit.

According to police, the manager of U-Stor Storage told Rebecca Ann Fancher -- the woman who rented the unit -- that she was behind on payments and if she didn't pay, the items inside it would be auctioned off. 

Manager Kevin McKeon says Fancher responded by telling him her dead grandmother was being kept inside the storage unit.

Sprinklers shower Pelican Walk

Clearwater Beach, Florida – Clearwater Fire responded to the Pelican Walk on the north beach Friday night for what original was thought to be an alarm of fire.

They discovered no flames, but a lot of cascading water blamed on a sprinkler head, according to preliminary reports. Crews were investigating what caused the head to activate.

No one was injured.

The 1-mile run will start at Clymer Park, located at 22th Avenue South and Beach Boulevard and end at O'Maddy's for wrap up drinks and socializing.

Carjackers confounded by stick shift

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - Two carjackers gave up trying to steal a 2007 Nissan when they discovered that the car was a stick shift.

The St. Petersburg Times reports that a man and his girlfriend were leaving his workplace early Friday morning when two men pulled a handgun. The assailants said if the couple didn't get out of the car, they would shoot.

Giant stolen beer bottle returned

Treasure Island, Florida -- A 30-foot inflatable beer bottle is back with its rightful owners.

The Bud Light display was put up by Great Bay Distributors to promote the Sand Ovations event held last weekend at the Treasure Island Beach.

The ad and the portable electric blower used to keep it inflated are worth about $5,000. They disappeared Saturday night, the city said.
