Giant cigar sold to collector for $185,000

CLEARWATER, Florida (AP) - A giant cigar sitting in a Clearwater warehouse has been sold for $185,000.

The cigar is 19 feet long and three feet wide. It's covered in 16,000 wrapper leaves - enough to make 25,000 regular size cigars - and weighs 1,600 pounds.

Argument over radio station leads to stabbing

St. Petersburg, Florida -- An argument over what radio station to listen to turned violent when a man stabbed his roommate multiple times, police say.

Pinellas deputies say Willie Brown stabbed Abraham Shedrack at least 10 times during the argument outside the mobile home the two share at Palace Mobile Home Park Wednesday night.

Shedrack, 72, is in critical but stable condition at Bayfront Medical Center. 

Brown, 58, has been charged with attempted first degree murder.

Woman steals St. Petersburg police car

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- A woman has been charged with vehicle burglary, auto theft, and leaving the scene of a crash after allegedly stealing a St. Petersburg police cruiser.

Two officers were responding to a domestic incident on Saturday when the theft occurred. One of the officers left the keys in the car and left the engine running, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Gulfport, Florida -- James Kile got trashed on his birthday. 

Of course, at three, “getting trashed” has nothing to do with drinking and everything to do with actual trash.

James’ parents, Jon and Monica, entered his name for a chance to win Gulfport’s city-sponsored trash themed birthday party. James won, which meant that on the day of his party, a Gulfport trash truck showed up for James and his guests to explore.

WATCH: Man on roof tries to ward off apocalypse

The Mayan calendar came to an end on December 21, 2012, but so far there's been no sign of the end of the world.

Perhaps it was due in part to former USF Professor Alex Duensing.

Duensing was perched on the roof of his St. Petersburg home for much of the night and morning, performing a ceremony he hoped would fight off the apocalypse.

Good Samaritan catches man who attacked another with ax handle

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- A patron at a convenience store stepped up in a big way to help police catch a man who attacked a fellow homeless man with the handle of an ax Wednesday afternoon.

Mark Tucker told Tarpon Springs police officers he saw James Knott come up behind Brian Kennedy with a 3-foot wooden ax handle in his hands and hit the man in the head as he sat on the edge of the sidewalk in front of the EZ Stop & Shop on S Walton Avenue. 

Police: Kittens found in man's freezer

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A man faces animal cruelty charges after four kittens were found inside sandwich bags in his freezer.

Pinellas County deputies say a woman visiting the home of Rodney Blanchard in the 7500 block of 46th Avenue North discovered the kittens when he asked her to get him a beer out of his freezer. The woman reportedly didn't notice the kittens at first, so he told her he had them in there. When she took a closer look she saw the kittens and tried to get them out, but Blanchard pushed her away and told her to leave.
