Police: Man killed protecting wife from shooter

Clearwater, Florida -- A man apparently protecting his wife from their neighbor who walked into their home armed with a gun was killed Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives say the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. at the Riviera Mobile Home Park mobile home park in the 29000 block of US Highway 19 N, just south of SR 580 on the east side.

Sources at the scene say Bruce Schunk walked into the home uninvited and made several comments to Sandra Lewandowski who was in the home at the time and her husband Keith.

At one point Keith stepped in between Schunk and Sandra and that's when he raised a gun and shot Keith in the face. His wife called police and Schunk went back to his home where he was later arrested by police.

Detectives say there has been a history of trouble between Schunk, 66, and other neighbors, including Lewandowski. However, they say there was no incident of any kind Wednesday between the two before Schunk entered their home.

The investigation is ongoing.
